Room With A View

This image was taken in The Netherlands one evening back in 1999, a few days shy of 2000. I'm reminded of the sense of anxiety over the ole Y2K bug and all. Hmm, looking back I realize even more so the power of the spoken word.
I'm reminded of the Orson Wells radio broadcast of a chapter from the H G Wells novel "The War of the Worlds" and all of the hype and panic attached to an "invasion of earth by Martians".
I often get the feeling we were had in some cruel and unusual way with the Y2K riga-ma-roll just like those folks listening to the radio back in the day.
Whats your take on the whole thing? Did you secretly horde Sterno cans and powdered milk? Did you sit ever so closely to your TV set biting your nails waiting for Kiritimati, or Christmas Island, in the Pacific Ocean, to ring in the New Year before the rest of world while wondering what would happen to them first? Or did you anticipate some massive power outage or the bidding adieu of our existence much like Princess Leia's home planet of Alderaan. (that may be too dramatic but you get the idea)

  2. I gave the "threat" some thought only for planning what to do if I did not have access to my money at the bank. I think I took out a few hundred bucks in case it took a few days to restore digital order but otherwise I was not stressed by any of it.
I did think at first that Y2K problems were starting when France had this massive power outage. I was watching the transition on TV and thought to myself: "No kidding. So there was something to this after all." It turned out that there was a localized power failure right at the time the new year came in France and it had NOTHING to do with Y2K. Cameras just happened to be rolling for the new year when the power went FZZZZZT!!!!!

Just a strange moment in history that most everyone forgot about mid way through Jan 1, 2000.
